Smarthinking - 24/7 Online Professional Tutoring Assistance

Smarthinking (access portal bottom of right column) provides students 24/7 access to online tutoring resources - students are initially provided 240 minutes (4 hours) of tutoring through Smarthinking. All Smarthinking tutors must complete Smarthinking's online training program, and are regularly evaluated for the quality and consistency of the tutoring they offer. The training is a minimum of fifteen hours of training modules and monitored practice sessions or returned essays. Each academic area is led by one of Smarthinking's directors or subject-area supervisors, all of whom are former college teachers, and experts in their disciplines. 90% of tutors hold masters or doctoral degrees in their fields, and they average 9 years of teaching experience. How to Check Your Remaining Minutes
 
Make sure you are logged into My Cedar Crest. Click on the Smarthinking Portal link to access the Smarthinking site. The Dashboard page should show as your default upon entering the site. The minutes you have remaining are listed on the top right of the page in the "Available Time" section. If you need additional Smarthinking minutes, please email your request to Academic Services (advising@cedarcrest.edu).
 
Study Aids

Smarthinking also provides students with a vast array of Study Aids - you can choose the Study Aids tab after logging in to access video lessons, a study skills handbook, writer's handbooks, and digital content in Anatomy and Physiology, Business, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership and Instructor Education, Geology and Earth Science, Information Technology, Philosophy, Physics and Astronomy, Psychology and Sociology. Assistance for Graduate Students
 
Smarthinking’s support for graduate students spans the educational experience, from acceptance to graduation and beyond. Their expert tutors, 90% of whom hold a master’s degree or PhD in their field, are here to help students navigate the most important aspects of graduate-level work—evaluating and synthesizing research in order to generate new ideas about their fields in relation to existing scholarship.
 
Writing for Graduate Students
Smarthinking writing tutors help students locate and evaluate scholarly sources and understand the different types of sources that might be suitable for graduate-level work. In a recent session, a writing tutor helped a graduate student assess a literature review’s effectiveness at evaluating sources and drawing conclusions. Students can submit any writing project for Smarthinking writing review—from thesis proposals to case studies to dissertation chapters. Similarly, tutors work with students one-to-one in real time, helping with a wide range of writing- and research-related questions. On a daily basis, Smarthinking expert writing tutors assist students with any part of the writing, research, and revision processes, including:
